Reading at Larbert High School
At Larbert High School, we are proud to foster a strong, inclusive reading culture that champions reading for pleasure across our whole community. We have achieved our Silver Reading Schools award and are currently working towards Gold, highlighting our commitment to embedding reading in everyday school life.
Our welcoming library, led by Ms Walker, offers a safe space for pupils to explore a wide range of books—both physical and digital through BorrowBox, available on all pupil iPads. Reading is woven into the curriculum through S1–S2 library periods, reading starters in English, and staff role-modelling via ‘currently reading’ door signs.
We celebrate and promote reading through initiatives like Reader of the Month, our LHS BookBuzz newsletters, and whole-school events during Book Week Scotland and World Book Day. Pupil voice is at the forefront, with projects like our S1 book review podcast and wider community involvement through fundraisers and book donation drives.
Family engagement is also central to our reading vision and has been embedded through programmes such as ‘Reading is FUNdamental’ and our staff-parent book group, helping to build strong reading habits at home and school.
At Larbert High, we believe reading opens doors—boosting confidence, literacy, creativity, and critical thinking across all ages.
